Adapting an Advance Care Planning Intervention for Use with Patients with Cancer and their Care partners: Phase Two
Objective
The overall goal of this study is to learn how best to adapt an advance care planning intervention (called Hello) for patients with cancer and their care partners. The first aim of this study was to adapt an end-of-life conversation game (called Hello) for use with patients with all stage cancer types and their care partners in the Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI) catchment area. This aim was completed in a previous IRB submission (STUDY00023029). Due to Aim 1, Hello has been modified for usage in cancer patients and their care partners. This protocol is for Aim 2 of this study, which builds on the data collected in Aim 1. For this aim, there are two sub-aims, which are listed below: Aim 2a: To establish acceptability and preliminary efficacy of the revised Hello game. Aim 2b: To establish feasibility of protocols and measuring healthcare utilization outcomes the Healthcare Based Delivery Model (HBDM) to recruit patients with various stages of cancer. Exploratory Aim 2c: To establish feasibility of randomizing individuals to play either Hello for Cancer or TableTopics.
